Tralee ladies played while Munster A had their British
& Irish Cup game V Welsh side Aberarvon on in O’Dowd Park tralee last
Saturday. While most of the days focus
was on the Men in Red there was another good display of rugby elsewhere.
The Tralee Ladies put up a valid, honest performance
against a vastly experienced Galwegians side and, although we lost on a scoreline
of 8 – 19, and failed to get even a losing bonus point, we did manage to
prevent the visitors from getting a try bonus point.

Our Ladies Squad crossed the Border for the first time ever
to play Cooke RFC in Round 3 of the Women’s AIL Division 1 yesterday and
came away with a draw.
While the girls were very disappointed not to have won they
did come from behind twice so that in itself was a testament to their “never-give-up”
mentality. Photo (c) David Condon

On Sunday, 30th September, Tralee
Ladies welcomed Blackrock to Tralee in the first ever AIL Division 1 game to be
played at Tralee's O'Dowd Park. Questions
loomed large over the ability of the home side to bounce back from their 53
point drubbing at the hands of Old Belvedere a week earlier. On a perfect
afternoon for rugby, O'Dowd park was full of home support for the Tralee girls and they would not disappoint the
supporters who showed up to witness their first home game in Division
1.

The Tralee team who lost their first league match of
Division 1 when they were comprehensively beaten by an experienced Old
Belvedere side at Angelsea Road, Dublin, today. The final score did not reflect
the gutsy performance by the travelling Tralee side but rather showed up the
vast experience of the opponents.

Following the Ladies Team's overwhelming success in the 2011-2012
season, preparations for the Tralee Ladies Team's first season playing AIL
Division 1 rugby are well undeway.
First on Tralee Rugby Club's list of priorities was the appointment of
Team Captain and Team Management.
Tralee Rugby Club is delighted to announce that Irish International Siobhan Fleming has agreed to continue in the role as Team Captain. Siobhan said after her
decision that she is honoured to have an opportunity to once again captain such
an incredible group of players and especially for the first year
in Division 1.
TRFC also wishes to announce that last year’s management team of Paul McMahon (Head Coach), Mike
Keane (Backs Coach) and David Condon (Team
Manager) will return in full to guide the team through Division 1.
Paul McMahon said, following a reversal of his earlier decision to step
down as Head Coach, that he has so much belief in the squad of players that he
could not walk away at this point and is looking forward to his fourth season
with the Ladies Squad. |
